“First of all I urge that entreaties, prayers, petitions and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all men – for kings and all who are in authority – so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all Godliness and dignity” 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Christians in Leadership!

A

ll Christians, no matter where they live or work, can (and should) be an influence for good. As we live out our Christian lives; as we witness by our words, our love, our faith and our actions, we can have an influence for good on those around us. As well as this, as people of prayer who believe that God hears and answers prayer, we can also help to change society for the better by interceding for our people and especially for our leaders.

We especially need to pray for:

1.      Christians who are already in leadership positions in our country

This includes positions such as our Governor General, Parliament (Prime Minister, Cabinet, Members of Parliament), Civil Service, Mayors and Councillors (including regional councils), leaders in business, education, etc.

Pray that they will be inspired and led by God in all that they do, not only in their private lives but that they will also know God’s blessing, help and guidance in their public office and leadership roles as well.

2.      People who are in leadership roles, who are not yet Christians

Pray that they will be called by God to commit their lives to Him, so that they not only know Him as Lord and Saviour but also as their Guide, strength and wisdom in their roles as leaders. Huge pressures come upon those in leadership and they all need the Lord’s help, protection, inspiration and guidance.

3.      Christians who are being called by God into leadership

God is also calling many Christians to become leaders in the community, in Government and in other positions of major influence. Pray for their success in achieving these roles, which may include some form of election or selection. Pray that God will prepare their hearts to lead, as led by God, inspired by His Spirit, with boldness and wisdom, divine authority and protection. Pray that they will lead in humility, giving glory to God and blessing to those they influence and lead.

In many countries, people suffer under corrupt leadership – including governments; under tyranny from ungodly, wicked and arrogant dictators; and under foolish, misguided leaders. Pray that we will be led by people who know God, who are wise, loving and caring, humble, free from greed and corruption, who have a genuine desire to serve their people rather than lord it over them.

Christians who walk with God, know His leading and guiding, know and abide by the principles of His Word, and genuinely desire to serve their people for the betterment of the whole country, are the ones who will bring greatest blessing to any country and people.

Pray for this in our own country, in other countries, and pray for this especially in countries you know of where there is corruption, greed, pride, dictatorship, repression, etc.

May God deliver us from evil, including evil people in positions of authority, leadership and [bad] influence!

“May Your Kingdom come! May Your will be done – on earth as it is in Heaven!” (Matthew 6:10).

Can you help?

We would like to build up our mailing list and encourage more and more Christians to Pray for the Nation. If you know of anyone who would like to become part of Intercessors for New Zealand, would you please ask them to email us at ifnz@xtra.co.nz or write to us at IFNZ, PO Box 3399, Wellington.

If you would like to receive more copies of this monthly magazine for your church, prayer group, home group, etc., then please let us know how many copies you would like each month and we will be happy to send them to you.

Thank you!
