Prayer Update 429
GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD
“O give thanks to the Lord for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 136)
10. Prosperity
It might seem rather strange at the moment to talk about prosperity, when the world economy is undergoing a real shaking! However we have much to thank God for, for the relative prosperity there is in New Zealand. Lest we are tempted to complain that we still don’t have enough, we only have to look at much of the rest of the world to realise how much we do have – and we need to give thanks to God for it! This is not to say that there are people in real financial need here in our own country, and we should be doing our best to help them, as well as other parts of the world where there is hunger (even starvation) and poverty.
NEW GOVERNMENT-ELECT
Please pray for our new Government-elect: John Key (Prime Minister), Bill English (Deputy Prime Minister), the new Speaker of the House, Cabinet, all Members of Parliament (especially new MPs), and a successful coalition. Pray for the newly elected Labour leader, Phil Goff; his deputy Annette King, and the Labour shadow cabinet. Pray for a good strong coalition which will listen to everyone and discern what is best for the country.
END OF 40 DAYS
The end of the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting about abortion in New Zealand comes on Tuesday 18 November. Tragically, the end of abortion will not come quite so soon or so easily. In fact, every working day another 72 babies are killed by abortion. Another 72 mothers have given their wilful consent – and most of society couldn’t care less! What a tragedy! Please pray for effective practical measures to be taken to rapidly decrease the number of abortions in New Zealand and to help those mothers who would otherwise have had an abortion. Continue to pray, even after the 40 days have ended – pray that God will raise up men and women who will campaign against abortion and see our laws, our attitudes and our moral behaviour change for the good.
RADIO RHEMA
The Rhema Broadcasting Group is celebrating 30 years of permanent Christian broadcasting. Their programs are now carried on over 75 transmitting stations, reaching almost every part of the country. Praise God for faithful men and women who have carried this ministry for 30 years (and, in prayer and other ways, for many more years before permission was given to broadcast). Praise God for every life which has been touched, every person who has been saved, through their ministry. Continue to support them in prayer and with giving, if you possibly can! www.rbg.co.nz
NATIONAL PRAYER GATHERING: Quezon, Philippines (18-20 November)
Intercessors for the Philippines is holding its 19th National Prayer Gathering next week, and my wife and I have been invited to participate. The theme of the Gathering is “The Glory of God’s Kingdom”. I have been asked to speak twice and feel led to speak about our “Awesome God!” (see our November magazine’s Bible Study) and His “Glorious Bride!” (see the December magazine’s Bible Study – when it comes!) We would really appreciate your prayers while we are away, from 15-25th November. We will also be meeting with Asia-Pacific Intercessors leaders to discuss the furtherance of intercession in our region of the world. For this reason, there will be no Prayer Update next week.
