Prayer Update 428
GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD
“O give thanks to the Lord for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever” (Psalm 136)
9. Education
Praise God we live in a country where there is education from pre-school right through to high quality University qualifications, at relatively affordable costs. Education is a key to better skills, better jobs, progress and a higher level of prosperity. Pray that New Zealanders will value, and make the most of, every opportunity they have for training and education in a wide variety of skills which are needed in our country, and that some will take these skills to other parts of the world where their skills can be used, and are needed, and where they can train others in turn. Please pray for the Ministry of Education, for the new Minister of Education in the incoming Government and for all teachers.
THE ELECTIONS
In case you had forgotten (!) our elections are Saturday 8 November. Don’t forget to vote – and vote prayerfully! But that’s not the end – please also pray for the new Government, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Cabinet, Members of Parliament (especially new MPs) and any coalition that may be formed – and on what terms! Continue to pray for MPs who are of good character, honest, people of integrity and wisdom, people who keep their promises, who have a care for people and are not arrogant or self-serving. Pray that all MPs will work for the good of the country, not just for themselves or their Party.
NATIONAL DAYS OF PRAYER: Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November
All around the country groups of people, and individuals, will be praying for the elections, for our country and its foundations. A group will be gathering in Johnsonville, Wellington on Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday morning will be having a time of celebration, worship and communion in Old St Pauls, and then going on a tour of Parliament Buildings. Please pray for God’s inspiration and direction on all who pray!
ABORTION
The 40 days of prayer and fasting against abortion continues until 18 November. Please pray about the fears that women and girls may feel when they discover they are pregnant – fear of parental reactions and anger, fear of the future, fear of whether the father of the child will leave them because he does not want the responsibility of fatherhood, fear of abortion but fear of carrying on with the pregnancy, fear of other people’s reactions and fear of the unknown. Pray that women will turn to the Lord, with all their fears, and cry to Him for help in every way. Pray that God will help them through this time of trouble and fear, and reveal Himself to them as a loving Heavenly Father who cares for them and who will, if they allow it, never fail or forsake them or their child. Psalm 27:1-10; 118:5-9.
NZ PRAYERLINE
If you knew that there was a phone number you could call, an 0800 free number you could call, anytime of day or night with your prayer requests – a live, person to person prayer line – would you be interested? If you knew that right now 0800 50 80 80 existed and was manned by 7 prayer teams throughout New Zealand and they were currently taking 2000 calls a month, would you want to know more? NZ PRAYERLINE does exist … and it needs you! www.nzprayerline.org.nz or 0800 50 80 80 is a ministry which has in a great need for:
1. More prayer teams (a group of 5 people committed to a minimum of 1 hour each week).
2. A new National Director who has a vision to see the way forward.
3. Financial assistance to the tune of $2000 a month to keep this vital ministry functioning.
NZ Prayerline helps the lost, lonely and hurting of our nation every day. Can you help? If so, please ring the number above. Even if you can’t help in any of the above three ways, please pray for this vital Christian ministry and the 2000 callers each month who ring them for help.
